Reclaiming Your Identity and Finding Belonging

Affirmative Experiential Therapy for BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, Immigrants, and TCK Individuals in New York & New Jersey

Do you often feel like you’re walking a tightrope between different worlds? Maybe you’ve become a master at adapting—wearing different masks, code-switching, or becoming a chameleon to fit into spaces that often feel unwelcoming or unsafe.

While this ability to navigate diverse environments can be a strength, it can also leave you feeling disconnected from your true self, exhausted, or like you don’t fully belong anywhere.

The Struggle to Feel Seen and Accepted

Identity is complex, especially for BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, immigrant, and TCK individuals. Navigating identity and belonging can bring up complex emotions:

  • Hiding your true self to avoid judgment, rejection, or discrimination.

  • Feeling torn between cultural or societal expectations and your own values.

  • The exhaustion of constantly code-switching or trying to “fit in.”

  • Struggling to balance multiple, intersecting identities in ways that feel authentic.

  • A sense of rootlessness or “otherness” as an immigrant, TCK, or someone living at the margins of dominant culture.

These experiences can be isolating, making it hard to feel grounded, understood, or at home in yourself and your communities.

The Challenges You Might Be Facing:

  • Cultural Identity Confusion: Struggling with the complexity of living between cultures or reconciling multiple identities.

  • Feeling Like an Outsider: Dealing with the feeling of never quite fitting in, whether in your family, community, or the wider society.

  • Internalized Shame: Carrying the weight of societal or familial expectations that conflict with who you truly are.

  • Queerness and Acceptance: The challenge of embracing your queerness in environments that may not be affirming or supportive.

  • Ancestral and Intergenerational Wounds: Navigating the legacy of trauma or cultural erasure passed down from ancestors.

  • Marginalization: Experiencing discrimination or rejection because of your race, gender, or immigration status.

  • Identity Crisis: Feeling disconnected from your core identity or unsure of how to express it authentically

  • Navigating Privilege and Oppression: Wrestling with the complexity of holding privilege in some areas while experiencing oppression in others, and the internal conflict this dual reality can create.

You don’t have to navigate these challenges alone. Together, we can explore the layers of your identity and create a path toward greater self-acceptance and connection.

How I Work

I use a trauma-informed and affirmative approach, creating a space where you can safely explore your identity and experiences. My work is experiential, often incorporating creative and somatic practices like:

  • Brainspotting and mindfulness to address the stress and anxiety tied to identity struggles.

  • Drama therapy and storytelling to help you process your experiences and reclaim your narrative.

  • Parts work to honor the many facets of who you are, integrating them into a cohesive and empowered sense of self.

Here’s how we can work together:

  • Integrate Your Cultural and Personal Identity: We’ll explore how multiple aspects of your identity—cultural, sexual, spiritual—intersect, empowering you to embrace them all.

  • Heal Ancestral Wounds: Together, we’ll address how ancestral trauma impacts your sense of self and work to heal intergenerational patterns.

  • Challenge Limiting Beliefs: We’ll release internalized shame and societal messages that prevent you from fully accepting yourself.

  • Navigate Code-Switching: We’ll unpack the emotional toll of constantly adapting to fit in and help you find comfort in expressing your authentic self.

  • Create a Sense of Belonging: Through healing, you’ll connect with your true self, finding belonging from within rather than external validation.

Centering Your Unique Story

As someone who specializes in working with BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, immigrants, and TCK individuals, I deeply understand how identity and belonging are shaped by systemic, cultural, and intergenerational dynamics. You might feel:

  • The weight of navigating discrimination or microaggressions.

  • The internal conflict of being “not enough” or “too much” in certain spaces.

  • The grief of feeling unanchored or disconnected from your roots.

  • The longing for a place where you can simply be, without having to perform or adapt.

  • The tension of holding both marginalization and privilege, navigating what it means to advocate for yourself and others while honoring your intersecting identities.

Here, your story will be held with care, and your identity honored as we work toward building a deeper sense of belonging—first within yourself, and then in the spaces you choose to inhabit.
